Jules Buck Jones
Winter 2017
Jules Buck Jones creates art inspired by the mechanics and mysteries of the natural world. His body of work ranges from dense, organic watercolors and drawings, to large-scale performances employing costumes and puppetry. He is a founding member of the collective, non-profit, MASS Gallery located in Austin TX. Jules attended Skowhegan School of Sculpture and Painting and Vermont Studio Center, and also attended residencies in New York, Tennessee, Florida Everglades, and Barcelona. He shows extensively throughout TX with solo shows and representation in Austin, Dallas and Houston. Jules currently teaches painting and drawing at TX State University in San Marcos.

Andres Carranza
Spring 2017
Andres Carranza was born in 1975 in San Jose, Costa Rica and currently lives and works between Costa Rica and New York. Trained as an architect, his work can be positioned at the junction of art and architecture, as his artistic practice embraces material and space as primordial elements within specific environments.
Carranza studied Architecture at the U.D.I Universidad del Diseño, Costa Rica and Film at Universidad Veritas, Costa Rica. Since 1999, his work has appeared in solo and group exhibitions internationally. He represented Costa Rica in the 25th Sao Paulo Biennale, and received the second Grand Prize in the 2nd edition of the Central American Biennale. In 2003, he gained recognition for his video works in Central America’s first video art exhibition Inquienta Imagen. His work, which has grown to encompass video, installation, sculpture and recently painting, has been exhibited in Spain, Dominican Republic, China, Panama, Brazil, London, the United States and Costa Rica. In 2014, Carranza was awarded residencies at Pioneer Works Center for Art and Innovation and Residency Unlimited in Brooklyn, New York.

Catherine Fairbanks
Fall 2017
Catherine Fairbanks received her MFA in Sculpture from the San Francisco Art Institute. Cathy lives in Los Angeles where she works as an artist and critical care nurse at UCLA Medical Center. Listen to this podcast to hear how both of these callings shape her life. Cathy works primarily in sculpture and collaborative performance is also an important part of her practice.
Before coming to Barcelona for her residency, Cathy went to Documenta 14 in Athens and Skulptur Projekte Münster.
A few of the other residencies Cathy has attended are: Skowhegan School of Sculpture and Painting, Wassiac Project, and the National Textile Institute in Blönduós Iceland.
Within the group of images shown here are a bronze of a clay sculpture that was made at a local foundry and ceramic sculptures made at her LA studio following her residency in Barcelona.

Erik T. Burke
Winter 2018
Erik T. Burke lives in Reno, NV and creates place-specific murals throughout the world. His latest work can be seen in Bosnia, S. Korea, Italy, and closer to home in Reno. His work has been published in the book 'Street Art; The Best Urban Art from Around the World', 'Outdoor Gallery', The Huffington Post, Village Voice, and the NYTimes.
Excerpt from Erik's artist statement:
I believe painting and traveling inform one another. Painting in public allows me an admission to transcend tourism and explore citizenship. It begins a dialogue with these places, and more so, the people that make them unique. Collaborations in this regard are personally authentic and invaluable while seeming to be a catalyst for direct community action.
My paintings reflect a deep interest in storytelling and the narrative power of images to reactivate space. Through a culmination of iconography, portraiture, ecology, and the creative use of urban spaces I hope to tell the untold. Or at least unravel it a bit.
Past works have included making a 40 acre ground drawing in the USA, creating a body of work while bicycling from Portugal to the exhibition gallery in Copenhagen, Denmark , becoming the de facto resident Artist of Lassen County Jail while serving time for graffiti, and seeking out decommissioned spaces for wheat pastes. Throughout that time I have continually returned to the inspiration of geography and identifying a sense of place.
During Erik's residency he covered many parts of Barcelona and traveled through Sicily, making work on-site and finding locations to place work he brought with him.

Kimberly Rowe
Spring 2018
Kimberly Rowe is a painter, sculptor, and installation artist, Kimberly lives in Berkeley and maintains a studio in Oakland, California. She earned her MFA with Honors from the San Francisco Art Institute and Bachelor’s degrees Cum Laude in both Studio Art and a special major in Psychology, Philosophy, and Religion, from California State University, Hayward.
Residencies include Vermont Studio Center (A.I.R., 2013); Headlands Center for the Arts (Affiliate Artist, 2010-2012); Painting’s Edge (A.I.R., 2008); and Kala Art Institute (A.I.R., 2000-2005).
Kimberly was included in Grafforists at the Torrance Art Museum (TAM) in 2016 curated by Max Presneill (Press Release), among many other solo and group shows in the U.S. and internationally.
Following Kimberly's residency at Wool Factory A.I.R., she exhibited her new body of work, Finding Grace, at TW Fine Art in Brisbane, Australia (click the link to view the finished paintings).
