Jules Buck Jones Artist Statement

My work lies at the intersection of science, myth, and my personal relationship with the natural world. These trajectories create a colorful hybrid zone when woven together. I make paintings, drawings, sculpture and video that hint at the supernatural authority of earthly flora and fauna. My work utilizes both abstracted and representational imagery to navigate between the ideal and imaginary concepts of nature and natural history’s own bizarre and potent narratives. My work as a whole is a reflection on evolution, extinction, mutation and transformation. These grandiose themes are investigated, boiled down, and retold in a variety of visual languages
